Munich Commemoration Wall Clock

The Munich Commemoration Wall Clock is produced by THC in the UK, remembering the Munich air disaster that occurred on 6 February 1958, when British European Airways Flight 609 crashed during an attempt to take off from a slush-covered runway at Munich-Riem Airport, in what was then West Germany.

This commemoration wall clock has two faces, each showing the date of the disaster, with one face permanently fixed at the time it occurred. The clock is made from Oak and ebonised to produce a near black colour that is finished with oil and wax, giving a tactile satin look and feel.

The clock has a choice of movement:

~ Standard quartz movement;

~ Chiming quartz movement – which has the options of Bim Bam or Westminster chimes;

~ Radio controlled quartz movement – which uses the highly accurate 77.5 kHz carrier signal that is transmitted across Europe from the Mainflingen long-wave transmitter, in Mainflingen, Germany; and displays Greenwich Mean Time GMT for the UK.

The Manchester United football team, nicknamed the “Busby Babes”, along with supporters and journalists were on the plane, which was returning from a European Cup match in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, after eliminating Red Star Belgrade.  The flight stopped to refuel in Munich.  After the failed take off, twenty of the forty on the plane died at the scene, with a further three of the injured succumbing later in hospital, resulting in 23 fatalities with 21 survivors.

Based in Lanarkshire, the business was set up by Tom Harris after a career in operations management in the public and private sectors. Having studied construction and design, Tom developed his clock building skills over the years, with formal cabinet making courses together with the support of master craftsmen. He builds his clocks to order, producing superb clocks that enhance today’s home, or workplace. Tom enjoys creating a beautiful piece of furniture, which others can take satisfaction in owning.

Tom Harris Clocks are delivered in six to eight weeks from ordering (subject to workload), and a deposit option is available to secure an order in the production schedule, with the balance payable when the clock is ready for delivery.
